Dan will share the stage with expert flatpickers Mark Grove and Richard Starkey at the Perkasie Patchwrok Coffeehouse in Perkasie, PA on Saturday, March 15. The concert is at the Perkasie Mennonite CHurch Hall at Fourth and Chestnut Streets in Perkasie. Singing Through the Hard Times Nominated for a GRAMMY!

Dan is extremely honored to have been nominated for a GRAMMY award, along with co-producers Kendall and Jacqui Morse, for Singing Through the Hard Times - a Tribute to Utah Phillips! The album has been nominated in the Best Traditional Folk Album category. The CD, which features performances by Emmylou Harris, Pete Seeger, Ani DiFranco, Tom Paxton, and many others (including Dan!), honors Utah's legacy and benefits his family. Dan, Kendall and Jacqui will be attending the awards ceremony this January 31, along with our friends Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, who have been nominated in the Best Musical Album for Children category for Banjo to Beatbox.


Singing Through the Hard Times - a Tribute CONCERT for Utah Phillips

Sponsored by the Folklore Socieity of Greater Washington, this special concert wil feature Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, Elizabeth LaPrelle, Magpie, Lisa Null, Dan Schatz, Ed Trickett, and Utah's sons Duncan and Brendan Phillips. The concert is a benefit for Hospitality House, a homeless shelter that Utah helped to organize. Dan's is currently focusing on his new CD, The Song and the Sigh, which should be out this Spring. The album features songs of meaning and spirit, including six of Dan's own. Guest musicians include Magpie, Lisa Null, Charlie Pilzer, Carly Gewirz and George Stephens.

Dan is very pleased to announce the release of Singing Through the Hard Times - a Tribute to Utah Phillips - on Righteous Babe Records. Co-produced by Dan with Kendall and Jacqui Morse, this double CD set features performances by Dan along with Emmylou Harris and Mary Black, Pete Seeger, John McCutcheon, Rosalie Sorrels, Gordon Bok, Emma's Revolution, Magpie, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer and many others. All proceeds from the sales of this album go to support Utah's family.


California Appearances

Dan will debut his new project, The Gathering, at the Unitarian Church of Palo Alto on January 4 as part of the regular Sunday services. Dan will also appear on Nevada City's KVMR-fm on January 12 at 9 a.m.

A beautiful baby boy, Kiran Shivde Schatz, was born to Geeta and Dan on May 1, 2007. Kiran is a sweet-tempered boy who loves to be held, sung to, and gently rocked to sleep. Mother and father are tired, but healthy and happy.
